ENDURO produces machine bearings specifically developed for bicycle use, where the stresses differ from industrial purposes due to non-standardized sizes, lower rotational speeds, and static forces. In fact, a high ABEC rating alone does not mean that the bearing possesses all the qualities desired for optimal function and long durability on a bicycle.
The difference between a standard industrial machine bearing and an ENDURO bicycle-specific bearing lies in deeper raceways that can absorb lateral forces better – and this applies to all ENDURO bearings, regardless of ABEC rating, material, or application!
ABEC 5
ABEC classifications are standards that a machine bearing must meet. A higher number indicates better quality. To obtain an ABEC classification, a number of requirements must be met, including noise testing at high speeds, extremely tight tolerances for inner diameter, outer diameter, ball roundness, and raceways, as well as surface treatment for all components.
ENDURO's ABEC 5 bearings surpass competitors in quality and durability thanks to Grade 5 balls (a military standard used in precision equipment) and their raceways made of 52100 High Carbon Chromium steel alloy. All ENDURO ABEC 5 bearings also have double LLU/LLB seals and are filled with PerformanceGrease. LLB is a seal with little contact to the raceways, while LLU has a medium contact surface. This ensures that the bearings have the least possible friction, while being optimally protected against the elements. (Therefore, the grey LLU seal should be mounted facing outwards to maximize protection and water resistance)
ENDURO ABEC 5 bearings also have ball retainers in both 1022 steel and Nylon depending on the application. Steel retainers are more durable and can withstand axial forces better, while Nylon retainers have minimal friction in applications that only have radial forces.
